International Women's Day

Friday, March 7th, 2008

On Wednesday this week (5th March) I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a great networking event arranged by Success Network for International Women’s Day.

The theme for this year’s event was ‘Networking and Working Together for Success’. As well as the usual networking opportunities that you might expect, Success Network had worked hard to get together a great line-up of speakers. They included:

  • Keynote speaker, Sue Knight - renowned international consultant and author, who pioneered the use of NLP for people in business and who has been described as ‘bringing the heart and soul to business’.
  • Sharon Connolly - Sharon is a widely known image consultant who has been on national television. She runs the Maximise Group, is founder of the Ladies Who Latte Networking group and partners with Mary Flavelle, entrepreneur and networking queen of Berkshire!
  • Natalie Holliday - speaking about the goal, the challenge and the way to an outstanding sporting achievement - a valuable lesson for all women in business!

Each of these ladies had so much to give, it was both entertaining and inspirational to listen to them as they shared their own experiences with us.

There was a definite theme running through all of the presentations that evening. NLP and coaching in it’s various forms was high on the agenda, giving some great examples of how it might be used and the benefits it can bring. As a Master Practitioner of NLP, I was delighted to hear this, of course, and having Sue Knight have everyone doing some positive visualisation was a lovely way for her to give to the whole group.

Ute mentioned to us that each year they have had this event, it has doubled in size, so all I can say is that, Ute and Mary – you are going to need somewhere much bigger for 2009!

Congratulations to Success Network and all the speakers for such a great evening. As an evening intended to celebrate women’s progress and success in business and inspire us to achieve our full potential – you certainly succeeded!

LadiesWhoLatte has just launched a fabulous new website for its members. It is free to put your details on, or you can pay to have a banner ad if you prefer.

Anyway, suggest you check it out. It makes it much easier for the leaders of each of the groups to be able to keep in touch of all of their members, so I urge you to at least log into whichever group you visit.

And if you have never been to a LadiesWhoLatte networking event, and think it might be for you, then I highly recommended that you visit the site and find out where your nearest meeting is.

    Fund Raising Shopping Night

    Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

One of the great things about the type of work I do is getting to meet all sorts of really interesting people. Networking is just one of the ways that I have been able to expand the number of people that I know, build relationships and let others know of my business. I have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people along the way who as well as building their own businesses, also find the time to do fantastic work raising funds for all sorts of good causes.

This year it has been my pleasure and privilage to be a part of that fund-raising for East Berkshire Women’s Aid (EBWA), a charity for the victims of domestic abuse. Just last week (November 28th) at Maidenhead Rowing Club, I and many others played their part in arranging a Christmas Shopping Evening to raise funds for EBWA. Many people put alot of effort into making it a successful event and although the net total raised is yet to be confirmed, I know that it will go along way in helping this worthwhile charity to continue its much needed work.

On the evening itself, complimentary mince pies and mulled wine were the order of the day to get everyone in the mood on arriving, and each shopper was given a free goody bag when they left. During the evening the main hall was filled with many stalls displaying their wares with some great Christmas gift ideas.

I know that there was much effort put into this event, but what a great way to raise some money for this really good cause – so I want to congratulate everyone for their work.

    Facebook

    Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Wow, just discovered Facebook. What a wonderful way to waste some time.

It seems a great way to keep in touch with friends and family, or to get reaquainted to those we may have lost touch with over the years. Similar in ways to Friends Reunited – but this is so much better. It is very interactive, allowing the user to add or take away all sorts of items to make your personal page more appealing.

Its definitely brought out the child in me, and I imagine it could be quiet addictive. You have been warned!
